Kimberly Paul, PsyD, ABPP
Dr. Kimberly Paul is a Licensed Psychologist who earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL (2012). She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship focusing in Neuropsychology from the Canandaigua VA Medical Center outside of Rochester, NY. She was a postdoctoral fellow with the University of Michigan Dept. of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation division of Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology (2012-2014) during which she worked with adults recovering from catastrophic injuries and acute and chronic illnesses in inpatient and outpatient treatment settings as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Dr. Paul served as the attending psychologist on the inpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation unit and as a consultant to the chronic pain clinic at the Detroit Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (2014-2020) until she decided to relocate with her family to Ann Arbor and focus on offering psychology services that are more easily accessible to individuals who are living in the community.
She is board-certified in Rehabilitation Psychology - an area of practice which emphasizes maximizing the independence, functional status, health, and social participation of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions. She enjoys using her experience in larger healthcare settings to connect with individuals who may be currently coping with complex medical situations or have history of doing so and want a psychologist that “gets it.” She also understands that while these things may be part of someone’s life, they are not their exclusive focus, and people with disabilities and chronic health conditions face similar challenges with work, school, relationships, their mood, etc. as everyone else!
Dr. Paul does not limit her practice to serving only those who consider themselves “a person with a disability;” however, she does appreciate that EVERYONE has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Her goal is to help the individuals she works with identify and enhance their strengths so they can more efficiently use them to minimize the effects of weaknesses as barriers to achieving their goals and improved quality of life. To achieve these outcomes, she relies upon evidence-based cognitive and behavioral interventions, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy that are tailored to each client’s unique history, present concerns, and future plans. She is also open to collaborating with other healthcare professions should that be appropriate. In addition to conducting psychotherapy, she offers psychological assessment services to individuals who may benefit from more information about their cognition and other psychological factors including mood and personality, to enhance their treatment planning, independent functioning, and quality of life.
Dr. Paul is currently "in-network" with BCBS, BCN, Physicians Health Plan, Priority Health, and Medicare. She also accepts private pay arrangements. If you have questions about insurance coverage, please contact Michelle's Billing Service at 248-997-8641.
