Using Telehealth for Virtual Appointments
The video conferencing platform we are using for teletherapy sessions is called Telehealth. It is similar to others which you may have used, such as Zoom, but it is integrated with the "Simple Practice" software which we use to manage our schedules and other aspects of our practice. More importantly, it is "HIPAA Compliant," which means that it meets the highest standards for privacy and security.
If you will be participating in a Telehealth session with one of us, you have the option of using your phone or a computer. Either way, your therapist will need to be able to send you an email which you can open on the device which you intend to use. If you will be using your phone, you will also need to have installed the "Telehealth by Simple Practice" app from the App Store or Google Play.
Shortly before your scheduled appointment your therapist will send you an email containing a link. If you're using a computer, clicking on the link will open your browser and take you straight to the conference with your therapist. Or, just open the email on your phone, click the link, the app will open, and you'll be ready to go! (You may have to wait a moment for your therapist to join you.)
No password is needed! The link in the email does it all, so please don't share it with anyone.
In order to protect your privacy and get the most benefit from your session, please make sure that you will be situated in a comfortable, private location where you won't be disturbed or distracted, and where no one has the opportunity to overhear the conversation.
**Please note: Due to state licensing regulations, we are only able to provide telehealth services to clients who are located in a state in which we are licensed. If you are in a state other than Michigan, please notify your provider. They may hold multiple state licenses or be aware of temporary licensing options in other states.
